| Don't remember a whole lot about last night's dreams, but they all seem to involve intricate little puzzles of one kind or another.
The first one involved some kind of school system where every student was a horse racer. All the racing was done within classrooms, so there were lots of champions, I guess. Mostly I remember that there was a scene where everyone was preparing in a giant locker room, but everyone left their stuff out in the open, and no one was worried about it being stolen, because a thirty cent bracelet had once disappeared from someone's pile and someone was (disqualified? arrested? I can't remember the consequences.)
At one point there was a big stadium-type theatre and I ended up sitting next to someone I knew from high school.
There was another part after the racing (?) with communal baths. I couldn't remember if I'd been in the north or south classroom so I got in and made a bubbling noise with my mouth under the water.
At another point, I was trying to get back into a mall with a movie theatre inside. I stopped to grab some craft hair and someone approached me, asking me to help her translate something. Then the dream kind of morphed into a "Knights of the Round Table" puzzle.
Finally, at one point I was with two friends. One friend told an ice cream vendor that we were on a honeymoon, so we got to move to the front of the line.
The end.
Where did it all come from? I'm fairly certain it's a combination of "room escape" games, the Presidential primaries, and torrents of television shows I was skimming through earlier. Hugh Laurie was one of the knights, for example. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Last night's dreams were a bit fragmented, but here goes:
- Somewhat related to a Simpsons episode I half-watched earlier ("That 90's Show"), there was some kind of demon possession, witch or animal thing going on. I don't remember enough details to be more specific, but there was an animal trying to signal with Morse code. Now that I think about it, it's probably also related to the anthropomorphic elements of "The Fourth Bear". (Don't worry, that's not a spoiler....there's no demon possession in the book. Just talking animals.)
- All I can remember about this small dream is that there were banks of elevators, and someone sneaking around in them. Also my ex was trying to convince me to date him again, and I laughed in his face - politely though.
- I took a last-minute trip to Romania, where I was supposed to carry around a human hand. There was a layover, and I couldn't figure out Jey's phone number - I looked in everyone's notebooks, chat logs and my phone, but the numbers were jumbled.
I missed my connecting flight, and when I realized I'd rushed out of the house without packing any clothes, not even a spare shirt or underwear, I was like, "Forget this, I'm going home!"
That's when an airline employee went outside to check with the street kids who hung out under a nearby bridge, to see if they'd want the hand. I'd decided to hang onto it, though, presumably to complete the delivery at another time. | comments: Leave a comment |

| Phew. Things are pretty good, lately, if uneventful in the whoa-I-should-write-about-that-on-LJ sense. My schedule is pretty much: wake up, work all day, go to Mom's in the evening, go home to play with kitty, and sleep. It's calming to have a general routine.
Mom and I have been walking around the neighborhood, which is apparently teeming with wild animals. The other night we saw a bunny, which isn't so strange for suburbs, I guess...and Mom's seen a fox and a coyote. Wha!
Anyway, I figured my dreams would be more interesting fodder for this journal than my day-to-day life. I remember my dreams pretty clearly, and they're usually related to stuff I've read about or seen that day.
This morning's dream, when I fell asleep after my alarm clock went off:
I came in but someone was in my office, so I went into the foyer, where I found everyone else who has their own office - apparently they'd all been commandeered for some kind of filming project. I started to set up my laptop, and someone asked me what I thought about the new uniform policy. Uniforms, what? I said, so they gestured at a nearby whiteboard - a place for office noticies which I'd never, uh, noticed.
The uniforms policy was written in faint green marker, so I checked all the markers so I could throw away the old one. The uniforms for girls were tan dresses that looked like Boy Scout uniforms, but I was thinking I could make it work if the sleeves and skirt were a little longer. Then we had a laugh about the idea of making developers show up in something other than tshirt/jeans or shirt/tie.
That's when Jey rang me to wake me up and keep me from being late to work! | comments: Leave a comment |
| Phew! I haven't updated in ages. On the other hand, I haven't had much to say. After three nights til 10 and one until 7 AM, I finally finished that project, so the horrible, looming anxiety has dissipated, leaving me a very sleepy shell of a human who spent the weekend just resting and trying to recover.
I was still sluggish today, though. I thought it was the dismal weather, or maybe that it was indeed the most depressing day of the year...until my coworker pointed out that someone had put decaf into the office espresso machine! Honestly, I'm not even sure how decaf beans made it into our office in the first place.
Anyway, it's still dismal outside, very cold and rainy, so I've tucked myself into bed to work on a few projects. Lots of video stuff in the works! | comments: Leave a comment |
| I've been having a lot of fun with Neatorama's CD cover meme. I never get to play with typography, so it's good to stretch a little, and I think i learned a bit as well.
By the way, I fudged a little bit so that I could do the middle one as my 365 - I refreshed Explore until I got a photo of a human in the third spot, so that I could mimic it. Luckily, the first one that came up was this gorgeous photo by Christine Lebrasseur.

| Today's a good day for numbered lists.
366 days catchup:

1. 366:011 - smoochies, 2. 366:012 - Spency, 3. 366:013 - smothered, 4. 366:014 - album, 5. 366:015 - sleepy
I'm really making an effort to take vaguely interesting photos (more than just "hold at arm's length, snap" which was my problem the first time around), even though I'm busy and never at home during the day/evening when there's any interesting light. I have a couple of ideas for the next few days which will be fine with artificial light, though I need to get a tall tripod to make them work.
Also, I just checked my flickr referrals and found this:

| Well, I am feeling better, although I've got several huge piles of stuff to work through - which is why I haven't been updating lately...bad habit. But these things are making me pretty anxious, so I've been turning to pleasant domestic tasks to calm myself.
What I've been up to:
- visiting family (including a really lovely, relaxing Sunday morning breakfast)
- cleaning and rearranging apartment
- finally sewing curtains (with lining! and hems!) for the living room (now just gotta make some pillow covers)
- hanging up all of my frames and posters and artwork...basically just making it a lot more cozy all over
- reading and sleeping and petting Evey
Also, taking lots of photos. | comments: Leave a comment |

Lowest day so far. I had a whole post written up about dealing with this kind of depression, because I don't normally talk about that aspect of my life. In fact, I don't normally talk about *any* aspects, which is why it's hard for me to keep up a journal.
But, when I feel normal there's such a huge disconnect between that feeling and the awfulness that I know I'd look back on what I'd written and cringe and think, "How could I have ever felt that way?" So I'll just note that it happened and focus on more positive things.

Worked, went home and slept. Some nice moments speaking to Jey, and then sleeps.
A lovely thing:
My dad gave me this stone for my birthday. It's a shiva lingam, a special stone collected on only one day a year near the mouth of the Narmada River in India. The river itself is one of seven holy places in the country.
The stones "represent the blending of male and female energy, with the shape of the stone representing the male (knowledge), and the markings representing the female (wisdom). Siva and Sakti (consort of Lord Siva represent this union of male and female energies - essential for the growth of the human race."
Supposedly the stones are becoming very rare because they're building a hydroelectric dam on the river, and the source will be totally submerged.
Two good resources: 1 2
I swear this will be the last portrait of my hand for a while. | comments: Leave a comment |

Today I felt extremely wonky, unfortunately. I had the same terrible sleeps last night, and my mood was murky all day. To cheer myself up I took a long bath this morning and started reading The Stolen Child by Keith Donohue, which has been sitting on my shelf for probably eight months now. At work, I wore my hoodie and perused Cute Overload.
I lasted a bit longer in the evening after spending some nice time with Dad, Ashley, Mom and Rick, so I'll take that as a sign I'm adjusting back, albeit slowly. But since I've been eating at my parents' homes so far this week, I haven't been able to begin my vegetarian cooking experiments. I think tomorrow I'll try in earnest to get home early, tidy and take care of myself.
A lovely thing:
Winston, a cat with a flat face and a singularly round head, is featured occasionally on Cute Overload (remember the rice krispie treat Halloween costume?) This video really made me smile. | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |

Feeling very off-kilter today, a combination of jetlag and loneliness. Although I went to bed around 10, I woke up every hour starting at 4:30 AM. I finally got out of bed when the cat started sitting on my pillow and sniffing my eye.
Today I'm spending all my time trying to do normal things and catch up with my calendar and work, but I feel like I'm just drifting through it all.
On the other hand, I'm making all of my lists and planning what I need to get done, so at least when I shake this off I'll have a place to start.
A lovely thing:
Hey Pais, a lovely and hilarious journal comic by a cat. Paisley reminds me of Evey - they're different colors, but both are stripey and are missing the tip of an ear. | comments: Leave a comment |
